Apple to launch Watch in seven more countries from 26th June

Tech News - Apple had directed people to order online, preventing long queues around its stores that have become a norm with the company's rollout of new products.

"We believe making the Apple Watch available for customers to purchase at an Apple retail store will drive increased sales volumes," Cantor Fitzgerald analysts wrote in a note.

The company said all orders, except one model, placed through May would be shipped to customers within two weeks.

"The response to Apple Watch has surpassed our expectations in every way," said Jeff Williams, senior vice president of operations. "We're also making great progress with the backlog of Apple Watch orders."

The company has not given any sales figures for the watch since it began taking orders, but has often said demand was outstripping supply.

Apple Watch will be launched in Italy, Mexico, Spain, South Korea, Singapore, Switzerland and Taiwan on June 26, the company said. The watch is currently available in the United States, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan and the UK.

Apart from online stores, customers in these countries can also buy the devices at Apple's retail stores and some authorized resellers.

WWDC 2015: Apple cancels plan to unveil new internet TV as product 'not ready for prime time'

Tech News - The new Apple product was expected to come with an "improved" remote control and allow developers to create apps for the television screen.  Apple Inc was in talks with programmers to offer a slimmed-down bundle of TV networks this fall, media reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

The service would have about 25 channels, anchored by broadcasters such as ABC, CBS and Fox, and be available across all devices powered by Apple's iOS operating system, including iPhones, iPads and Apple TV set-top boxes, the newspaper said.

Apple had been talking to Walt Disney Co, CBS Corp, and Twenty-First Century Fox Inc and other media companies to offer a "skinny" bundle with well-known channels like CBS, ESPN and FX, leaving out the many smaller networks in the standard cable TV package, the Journal said.

Apple recalls Beats Pill XL wireless speakers due to fire risk

Tech News -  "Apple has determined that, in rare cases, the battery in Beats Pill XL may overheat and pose a fire safety risk," the California-based owner of Beats said yesterday in a release.

Apple received eight reports of the Beats Pill XL speakers overheating, one incident involved someone's finger getting burned and another involved damage to a desk, according to a recall advisory posted by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Apple asked people to stop using Beats Pill XL speakers and promised refunds of USD 325 each.

The commission estimated about 222,000 of the speakers were sold in the United States and another 11,000 in Canada. No other Beats or Apple products are affected by the recall, the Silicon Valley-based company said.

Beats by Dre introduced Beats Pill XL portable speakers in late 2013, about seven months before the company was bought by Apple in a deal valued at USD 3 billion.

Apple watch defect: Users claim tattoos interfere in functioning of device

Tech News - Irked Apple fans have dubbed the issue "TattooGate" on Twitter, complaining they must choose between their body art and their stylish gadget. Apple, for its part, acknowledged the issue on its support website.

"Permanent or temporary changes to your skin, such as some tattoos, can also impact heart rate sensor performance," the site reads. "The ink, pattern, and saturation of some tattoos can block light from the sensor, making it difficult to get reliable readings."

Several watch owners complained about the problem on social media this week, even posting videos that show the watch working well on an undecorated wrist, but repeatedly locking or pausing when worn on an arm with a tattoo. Some said it appeared the watch's screen-lock feature was triggering because the sensors thought the watch was not sitting on their wrist.

Defective component slowed Apple Watch rollout: Report

Tech News - The component, called the taptic engine, produces the sensation of being tapped on the wrist, the newspaper reported.

Apple declined to comment on the story.

Apple has not given any sales figures for its hotly anticipated Apple Watch since it began taking orders this month. Chief Executive Tim Cook said on Monday that demand continued to outstrip supply.

Some taptic engines supplied by Shenzhen, China-based AAC Technologies Holdings Inc started to break down over time, the Journal said, citing the people. The company is one of two suppliers of these components to Apple, it said.

As a result, Apple is now sourcing nearly all of its components from the other supplier, Japan's Nidec Corp. It may take time for the company to increase production, the people told the Journal.

New iPhones help Apple surpass Xiaomi in China's smartphone market

Tech News - According to consumer research firm Kantar Worldpanel, the latest number for smartphone sales in China has Apple’s market share rising to 27.6 percent from the 25 percent in from December to February, 2015.

Apple’s overall share increased 9.7 percentage points year-over-year, surpassing local brand Xiaomi for the first time.

According to Kantar, China’s top three smartphones in the last three months ending February were the iPhone 6, followed by Xiaomi’s Redmi Note and then Apple again with the iPhone 6 Plus.

Apple plans to roll out around 20 new China stores by 2016, likely located in glitzy locations and rubbing shoulders with outlets for luxury brands such as Chanel and Hermes International SCA (HRMS.PA).

For Apple, brick-and-mortar stores help it maintain a premium image, from the product to in-store service and even packaging, allowing the firm to charge far higher prices than rivals - vital to its enviable profit margins.

Past data showed Apple outsold all other smartphone makers in China by units shipped in October-December 2014, making it the country's top seller for the first time.

Apple to Launch Next Generation iPad and iPad Mini on 22nd October

Apple Inc is likely to unveil the next-generation iPad and upgrade version of the iPad mini on October 22, said media reports.

The iPad remains the largest-selling tablet, according to surveys.  But the rivals are eroding iPad’s market share by using the Google Android operating system.

However, according to earlier reports, the launch of the new version of iPad Mini with a high-resolution ‘retina’ display has been delayed, leaving the gadget without the sharper screen found on rival tablets from Google Inc and Amazon.com Inc.

It’s still unclear what new features and modifications could find their ways into the next iPad Mini. The users are expecting additional features such as higher-resolution screens, cameras and thinner and lighter dimensions. Apple Inc, however, has not made an official announcement regarding the same.
