Indian-origin duo develop app to cut bad eating habits

Satchidananda Panda and Shubhroz Gill from the Salk Institute have developed the app that can collect, analyze and interpret patterns of food intake in humans.

“The study is about developing methods and offers some preliminary insight into what and when people eat," said Panda, associate professor in the Salk Institute's regulatory biology laboratory.

The duo have kept the app simple, only requiring users to send pictures of everything they ate or drank, whether it was an entire water bottle or a few bites of a cookie. Each click also captured metadata (such as the location where food was consumed) and recorded a timestamp. http://post.jagran.com/indianorigin-duo-develop-app-to-cut-bad-eating-habits-1443177293

The precious metal again topped USD 1,100 an ounce mark in the global market. The depreciation in rupee, which plunged to almost two-year low against the dollar, also supported the upside in the global prices as it would make imports costlier.

In the forex market, rupee was trading 75 paise lower at 64.94 (intra-day) against the American currency. Silver also rose sharply by Rs 640 to Rs 35,700 per kg on increased offtake by industrial units and coin makers. McIlroy plans Saturday practice at Whistling Straits

The Northern Irishman has not played since rupturing the anterior ligament in his left ankle early last month, an injury that prevented him from defending his British Open title at St. Andrews.

McIlroy's manager, Sean O'Flaherty, did not respond to an email seeking comment. News that the four-times major champion plans to tee it up on the Wisconsin course this weekend is the first indication that he may defend his title at the PGA Championship, which starts next Thursday.

McIlroy won last year's event by one stroke at Valhalla in Kentucky, his second PGA title in three years, and he finished one shot out of a playoff the last time the PGA Championship was at Whistling Straits in 2010.

The 26-year-old has ruled himself out of this week's World Golf Championship event in Akron, Ohio. Previously, he said that although his rehab was going well, he did not want to rush back before he was ready.
