Parrikar arrives in J&K to review security situation

The Defence Minister is accompanied by Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag and General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Northern Command Lt Gen D S Hooda during the visit which will cover all three regions of the state.

Lt Gen V S Negi, General Officer Commanding of 14 Corps, will brief him about the situation along the Line of Control on Pakistani side and Line of Actual Control along the Chinese side, a Defence spokesman said.

Parrikar will then fly to Srinagar, the summer capital of the state, where he will hold meetings with Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. "Besides these meetings, the Defence Minister will be briefed by GoC 15 Corps Lt Gen Subrata Saha on the security situation in the valley and along the Line of Control," he added.

Be prepared for any eventuality: Army Chief tells NDA cadets

"Considering recent aggression by our neighbour we should be ready for any eventuality. Preparedness is the surest way of ensuring peace in the region and our strength should prove deterrent for anyone who dares to violate our sovereignty," he said after reviewing the passing out parade of the 127th course of the premiere academy at Khadakwasla near here.

General Singh said the future leaders of the three services should be ready to to meet all challenges including those posed by internal strife as well as natural calamities as the countrymen looked up to the army to tackle major problems facing the nation.

"You should strive for excellence and raise the bar even higher," he added.

As many as 355 cadets passed out on Saturday with cadet Arpit Sangwan winning the President's gold medal in the overall order of merit.
