Donald Trump tweets again, tells Israel 'Stay strong, January 20 is coming'

NEW DELHI: Donald Trump today continued to conduct international affairs reality TV-style by not just tweeting, but by using casual American slang to tell Israel to "stay strong" until January 20 when he is sworn in as US President. He also slammed President Barack Obama saying he was preventing a smooth transition.

The US President-elect was referring to last week's setback for Israel when the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) censured Jerusalem for expanding the construction of settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The censure was possible thanks largely to the US - or rather, the Obama administration - abstaining, instead of vetoing the resolution like it would normally have done. And the censure went through despite "extraordinary pressure" from Trump, said The New York Times.

Because the Obama administration abstained at the UNSC, Trump tweeted calling it a "roadblock", even though that's what outgoing administrations do - they continue with their policies their way regardless of who is to come after them. In his tweet, Trump, in his unique style, capitalised "NOT!" and put an exclamation point at the end, something that would no doubt make him more relatable to Joe Schmo American.

Respect our territorial sovereignty, India tells China

NEW DELHI: In the midst of growing unease in their ties, India on Wednesday asked China to respect its territorial sovereignty and said its ascent should not be seen as a threat to China's rise.

Foreign secretary S Jaishankar also criticized Pakistan for "blocking" Saarc+ , saying the regional grouping has become "ineffective" due to insecurity of one-member nation.

Calling terrorism the most "pervasive and serious" threat to international security, he rued lack of coherence in dealing with the menace globally, adding pressures to reform the UN so that it can deal with major challenges effectively will only grow with each passing day.

Talking about the China-Pakistan-Economic Corridor ( CPEC+ ) which passes through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, Jaishankar, addressing the Raisina Dialogue, envisioned as the country's flagship conference on geopolitics and geo-economics, said China should respect India's territorial sovereignty as Beijing was "very sensitive" to matters relating to its own sovereignty.

"China is a country which is very sensitive on matters concerning its sovereignty. So we would expect that they would have some understanding of other people's sensitivity on their sovereignty," he said, noting there was no sign of any reflection on India's concerns over CPEC project.

Donald Trump barges into 2016 White House race with barbs and bluster

Trump wallowed in political incorrectness as he insulted everyone from Mexican immigrants to Jeb Bush and US ally Saudi Arabia in announcing his bid for the Republican nomination.

"I will be the greatest jobs president that God ever created," Trump predicted in a long, combative speech in the atrium of Trump Tower on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue.

The billionaire, widely seen as having almost no chance of winning the nomination, brings an outsized personality and a penchant for controversy to an unusually large group of Republicans vying for the presidency.

In highly provocative comments, Trump accused Mexico of sending rapists and other criminals to live in the United States.

"They're sending people that have lots of problems and they're bringing their problems," he said.
