Risk of war in Middle East without Iran nuclear deal: Obama

"With this deal, we have a chance to resolve the challenge of Iran trying to get a nuclear weapon peacefully. Without it, we risk yet another conflict in the Middle East," Obama said in his address to the Veterans of Foreign Affairs in Pittsburgh.

"In the debate over this deal, we're hearing the echoes of some of the same policies and mindset that failed us in the past. Some of the same politicians and pundits that are so quick to reject the possibility of a diplomatic solution to Iran's nuclear programme are the same folks who were so quick to go to war in Iraq and said it would take a few months.

"We know the consequences of that choice, and what it cost us in blood and treasure. So, I believe there's a smarter, more responsible way to protect our national security. And that is what we are doing," he argued.

"Instead of dismissing the rest of the world and going it alone, we've done the hard and patient work of uniting the international community to meet a common threat. Instead of chest-beating that rejects even the idea of talking to our adversaries, which sometimes sounds good in sound bites but accomplishes nothing, we're seeing that strong and principled diplomacy can give hope of actually resolving a problem peacefully," Obama stated.

Donald Trump barges into 2016 White House race with barbs and bluster

Trump wallowed in political incorrectness as he insulted everyone from Mexican immigrants to Jeb Bush and US ally Saudi Arabia in announcing his bid for the Republican nomination.

"I will be the greatest jobs president that God ever created," Trump predicted in a long, combative speech in the atrium of Trump Tower on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue.

The billionaire, widely seen as having almost no chance of winning the nomination, brings an outsized personality and a penchant for controversy to an unusually large group of Republicans vying for the presidency.

In highly provocative comments, Trump accused Mexico of sending rapists and other criminals to live in the United States.

"They're sending people that have lots of problems and they're bringing their problems," he said.

MEA declines answer to RTI query on Obama visit expenses

Mumbai-based activist Anil Galgali, who filed the query with the MEA, had sought details of the total expenses incurred by the Indian government on hosting the US President and the American contingent that accompanied him in January this year.

He also sought information on the accommodation provided to the dignitaries and security personnel of Obama, besides details of the number of police personnel deployed and security arrangements made during his visit.

In response to his query, MEA's Deputy Chief Protocol Officer Rohit Rathish said every year the Indian government hosts various dignitaries from several countries and the visit of each dignitary is differentiated by various factors like the type of delegation visiting the country, the purpose of their visit, the manner in which the guest is hosted, the number of Indian cities the visitor goes to, among others.

"It would not be wrong to say that each visit by a foreign dignitary is unique. In such circumstances, the expenses incurred by the Indian government on different dignitaries are different and the issue is sensitive for the government. Also, relaying this information may have a negative impact on the bilateral relations with the foreign nation," the reply said.
