Sirisena's party offers to form coalition government in Sri Lanka

Sirisena had called the elections early after loyalists of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, also from the SLFP, had blocked some of his reforms to make government more accountable and simplify Sri Lanka's complex election rules.

Rajapaksa, still revered by many for ending a 26-year Tamil insurgency in 2009, headed the SLFP-led opposition alliance in Monday's election. But days before the elections, Sirisena purged Rajapaksa's allies from the SLFP, consolidating his power in the party.http://post.jagran.com/sirisenas-party-offers-to-form-coalition-government-in-sri-lanka-1440072171

Risk of war in Middle East without Iran nuclear deal: Obama

"With this deal, we have a chance to resolve the challenge of Iran trying to get a nuclear weapon peacefully. Without it, we risk yet another conflict in the Middle East," Obama said in his address to the Veterans of Foreign Affairs in Pittsburgh.

"In the debate over this deal, we're hearing the echoes of some of the same policies and mindset that failed us in the past. Some of the same politicians and pundits that are so quick to reject the possibility of a diplomatic solution to Iran's nuclear programme are the same folks who were so quick to go to war in Iraq and said it would take a few months.

"We know the consequences of that choice, and what it cost us in blood and treasure. So, I believe there's a smarter, more responsible way to protect our national security. And that is what we are doing," he argued.

"Instead of dismissing the rest of the world and going it alone, we've done the hard and patient work of uniting the international community to meet a common threat. Instead of chest-beating that rejects even the idea of talking to our adversaries, which sometimes sounds good in sound bites but accomplishes nothing, we're seeing that strong and principled diplomacy can give hope of actually resolving a problem peacefully," Obama stated.

Boko Haram bombs kill 13, injure 45 in Northern Nigeria

At least two of the devices went off as people were taking them past a market to be defused at a military base on Tuesday afternoon, locals told reporters.

The explosives were found in a bag on the side of a road outside the town of Monguno in Borno state, the epicentre of Boko Haram's six-year battle to carve out an Islamist state in Africa's largest oil producer.

"The bombs killed 10 of our members and three other persons nearby," Umar Zannah, a member of a local militia force set up to defend the town, stated.

"We have commenced treatment of the 45 people who were injured from the blast," added a doctor at Borno Specialist Hospital who did not want to be named.

Boko Haram, which has killed thousands and forced around 1.5 million people to flee, had occupied Monguno in January but was pushed out of the town by a military offensive in March.

Soldiers from neighbouring Chad, Niger and Cameroon have helped Nigerian Army retake territory - at its height Boko Haram controlled an area about the size of Belgium.

In neighbouring Chad, the government blamed Boko Haram for two attacks in the capital N'Djamena on Monday which killed 27 people, including four suspected fighters from the Islamist group.
