When Rahul Dev Burman Composed A Song Mid Air

Dancing like MJ in 'Bang Bang' was crazy: Hrithik Roshan

Hrithik said he refused initially because he thought it would be impossible to dance like MJ without rehearsing for months.

"When Sid told me to do the steps of Michael Jackson. I retorted saying; are you mad? This in an impossible task because I need months to rehearse to match up to his steps. Initially, I thought it was a bad idea. Then I thought MJ is the God of dance and has been someone whom I have idolised all my life. I have to do this for my love and respect for him," Hrithik said during the launch of the title track here.

"It doesn't matter how I dance or how I match up the steps but I have to this for the man I love and who was responsible for my career in dance. I have done this in my own style. The steps are his and the style is mine. When you do something for love you set yourself free," said the actor.

When asked about becoming an inspiration to dance lovers in the country, Hrithik said he takes it as a huge responsibility.

"With my work if I can become an inspiration for many who want to go through a journey like this, then it is really a feel good thing. Everyone has dreams and if I can be of any help to achieve their dreams I will be very happy. I take it as a responsibility," he said.

Produced by Fox Star Studios, 'Bang Bang' will hit the theatres on October 2.

Actors singing in films refreshing change: Kailash Kher

Celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Alia Bhatt, Shraddha Kapoor have sung in their films. Kailash says he does not feel threatened by this trend.

"I am not threatened by these actors at all. It's a beautiful and refreshing change in the industry. There was a time when singers like Kishore Kumar used to sing and act in his films.

"We are going back to our roots and follwing the same trend. This initiative also helps to enhance the popularity of the movie," Kailash told.

The 'Teri Deewani' hitmaker is relaxed after Bombay High Court restrained Mumbai Police from taking any action against him for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments with his 2007 song 'Babam Bam' following a police complaint by a Ludhiana man.

The 41-year-old singer says he will continue singing songs that will define spirituality despite the legal trouble that he faced for 'Babam Bam'.

"I feel one should not be affected by bad and rather inspired by good. I will not be hesitant to sing spiritual songs. I will continue singing. I don't know what was hurting in that song. It's just an attempt to take undue advantage," said Kailash.

The musician, who will be a part of MTV Indies talk show 'The Ride' this weekend where he will talk about his life and music, has also composed the music of upcoming film 'Desi Kattey'. Kailash says each rendition in the film is situational and has a story.

"There are six songs in the film which I have composed. Every song has come out of a story. It has a friendship song, an item number and a romantic track. They are sung by singers like Shreya Ghoshal and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. I have also sung one song in it," he added.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
While Tamil superstars Nagarjuna and Mahesh Babu are roped in to play male lead role, Aishwarya and Shruti Hassan will be acting as female leads in the multi-starrer bilingual film.

During an interview with a TV channel, veteran director Mani Ratnam’s wife and producer Suhasini has confirmed the news and said that shooting of the film is expected to start from June. Reportedly, the movie will be a Hollywood style spy-thriller.

'Lakshmi' movie review: Encounter with harsh realities of child prostitution

'Lakshmi' movie review
Story Line: Lakshmi (Monali Thakur) is 13 years-old girl who has been kidnapped and sold by Chinna (Nagesh Kukunoor) and his brother Garoo (Satish Kaushik) to a brothel.

The teenage girl has been forced to become a sex worker. After two failed attempts to escape from the hell, Lakshmi is rescued by a local NGO. With the help of the NGO, she decides to put the two pimps, Chinna and Garoo, behind the bar. The film is an honest and appalling story of Laksmi’s journey to emerge victorious against all odds.

Movie Review: Based on true story, the film is an appalling and heat wrenching journey of a brave girl. While Kukunoor has directed this film with utmost intensity, singer turned actor Monali Thakur gives flesh and blood to the character of Lakshmi. Monali isn’t an actress surely but she does a brilliant job in the film. Her natural innocence and childlike beauty goes well with the character. Monali Thakur has taken a very bold step by making her Bollywood debut with such an unconventional film. In future, she has to be careful in choosing movie offers.

Nagesh Kukunoor has always made a mark as a filmmaker but in this film he shows his flair for acting.
The strong story plot moves one so much, that minor flaws remain unnoticed. There are few scenes in the film which might shake you to the core and you start relate yourself to Lakshmi’s pain. The dialogues of film may make you feel uncomfortable in certain situation. But when it comes to conveying the underlying message, there is no better way.

'Kochadaiyaan' should be viewed as animated film: Ravikumar

Still from 'Kochadaiyaan'
"Kochadaiyaan" directed by Soundarya, daughter of Rajinikanth, is touted to be India's first motion capture photo-realistic 3D animated film.

"It's very important that audience doesn't walk in expecting to watch a typical Rajinikanth film. Of course, there's Rajini in it, but in an animated form that is larger than life. His fans need to understand this before the walk in...only then will they enjoy the film," Ravikumar said.

"Audience needs to understand it's a first-of-its-kind attempt. Therefore, they need to see the film as an animated feature to enjoy it to the fullest. In fact, that's why we want audiences to watch the film with their kids to enjoy the experience," he said.

Ravikumar was to direct Rajinikanth in a film titled "Rana", but the project was dropped after the southern megastar fell seriously ill a few years back.

"Kochadaiyaan" was derived from "Rana", says Ravikumar.

"When Rajini sir was hospitalised a few years back, we had shelved 'Rana'. But I worked on another story which was more like a prequel to 'Rana', and that was 'Kochadaiyaan'. When I narrated the story to him, he instantly agreed to do it," he added.

"Kochadaiyaan", slated to release on April 11, also features Jackie Shroff, Deepika Padukone, Shobana, Aadi Pinisetty, R. Sarath Kumar and Rukmini in important roles.

Ritesh Batra’s ‘The Lunchbox' inspired by stories about housewives

A still from 'The Lunchbox'
"I wanted to find personal stories from among them. Instead we became friends and they started telling stories about the housewives they would pick up lunchboxes from," Batra said.

"I got more interested in that. So I abandoned the documentary and started writing this," said the director, who has won the Best Debut Director prize at the prestigious 2014 FilmFare Awards for the film.

That was the genesis of the film set to release in New York and Los Angeles on Friday after a stellar run at the world's top film festivals including Cannes, Toronto, and Sundance where it met with rave reviews.

It then opens March 7 in San Francisco, Washington DC, Chicago and other major US cities.

Batra never anticipated the way the film seems to have taken both India and the West by storm.

"You are just trying to be honest to every moment of the film," he said. "It's hard enough to make a film. To anticipate what it's going to do later is just impossible."

The story revolves around Ila, a young middle class Mumbai housewife, trying to win back her husband's affections through his stomach and how a rare mistaken delivery in Mumbai's famously efficient 'dabba' delivery system of lunchboxes, from homes to offices, connects her to a testy old widower (Irrfan Khan) through notes in the lunchbox.

"It was a very difficult role to cast," said Batra, who after lots of auditions spread over several months, settled on Nimrat Kaur, a relatively unknown actress who had earlier appeared in a couple of TV commercials in India.

For the lead character of Saajan and his office colleague Shaikh, "I always had Irrfan and Nawazuddin Siddique in mind and I was thrilled when they came on board," he said.

Batra has no immediate plans for a new film. With "The Lunchbox" set to release in US then in Hong Kong, Israel, UK, Japan, and Australia "I have a lot of commitments to the film for the next few months - lots of travelling."

Bihar family awaits Aamir Khan to tell 'Mountain Man's' story

Aamir Khan
They now hope actor Aamir Khan, who visited their village for his TV show "Satyamev Jayate", will tell the world the real story of their lives.

Both Bhagirath and Basanti are disabled and live in penury at Dasrathnagar Dalit tola near Gahlaur in Gaya district, about 100 km from state capital Patna.

"I heard that a hero is coming to our village soon. We will tell him the real story of our lives full of misery," Bhagirath said in Magahi, a local dialect, in reference to Aamir Khan's proposed visit to see the road and meet the villagers.

Dasrath Manjhi had single-handedly carved out a 360 feet long, 30 feet high and 30 feet wide passage by cutting through a hill near Gahlaur with a hammer and chisel, working day and night. He died in 2007 after a battle with cancer.

The hill was between Attari and Wazirgunj blocks in Gaya district. Thanks to Manjhi, the village blocks have been brought closer. Manjhi began his uphill work when his wife was injured and he had to go around the mountains to reach the nearest hospital.

Basanti, who said she was proud to be the daughter-in-law of Dasrath - popularly known as "Mountain Man" - said she will request Aamir Khan to telecast their real story to the world.

"We have been left in the lurch, ignored by politicians and officials despite repeated assurances to help us," she said.

"We have been neglected by the state government and the district administration. No one has helped us to ensure a better life for us."

What pains her is that she and her husband beg for money for an annual ritual in memory of Dasrath.

Bhagirath and Basanti work in the village primary school as cooks for preparing the mid-day meal for children. Both of them are paid Rs.1,000 a month.

Aamir Khan reportedly said he will visit Dasrathnagar to dedicate this season's first episode of "Satyamev Jayate" to Dasrath Manjhi. The episode, set for telecast March 2, will be dedicated to a man who made the impossible possible with his hard work and dedication.

A woman blossoms the most in her 30s: Vidya Balan

Vidya Balan
You are that rare actress who has bagged good roles even after 30.

A woman blossoms the most in her 30s. I have come into my own in my 30s and that’s the reason these roles have happened to me.

What changes have you found in your personal life after marriage?
I am miserable on free days when I have to stay away from Siddharth Roy Kapoor. I didn’t think I would be like this, and earlier I would make fun of my friends who expressed similar thoughts and would say ‘Please don’t behave like that.’ But now I want to be with Siddharth!

Also, I used to be very restless but I am a calmer person now. My mother now tells me she would have married me off at the age of 20 if she had known this would happen (laughs).

What is that one quality of Siddharth that you love?

He just has to smile at me and I melt.

Have you thought about starting a family?

I will have a child when I am ready to share Siddharth. I have still not had enough of him (laughs).

Did it take time for you to create that chemistry with Farhan Akhtar?

Earlier I thought that Farhan was reserved. When we started working together, I realised he has a great sense of humour and I enjoyed that. We needed a certain familiarity because we play a married couple. The zone between familiar and unfamiliar creates chemistry between actors.

What went wrong with your last picture, Ghanchakkar?

I was under pressure because people expected me to be successful. We tried to do something different with that film and not many people liked it... which is fine. For the first time in my career, I was thinking in numbers which shouldn’t have been the case. Ghanchakar was not a mistake, but it wasn’t the way people expected it to be.

How was it working on Bobby Jasoos, which is produced by your Parineeta co-star, Dia Mirza?

I loved the script; it’s also a human story not just a detective film.

Successful male stars seem reluctant to work with you. Does that disappoint you?
Are they? (Laughs) Probably they have to justify their presence in the film so it’s understandable if they don’t want to do a female-centric film. So unless it’s on equal footing, it is difficult. But I am very happy with the work I am doing... this doesn’t bother me.

After a point, you become shameless: Imtiaz Ali

Imtiaz Ali and Alia Bhatt
The duo, who recently visited the MiD DAY office, sounded excited about their film that hits the marquee tomorrow. Excerpts:

From the trailers of Highway, it appears you have had a gruelling shoot. How different was it when compared to your debut film?

Alia Bhatt (AB): It was quite adventurous. We travelled across six states and ventured into remote, isolated places. We did physically exhausting things like running, climbing trees and mountains. Going de-glam was very refreshing for me. I didn’t have to worry about make-up and my clothes. That helped me focus on my performance. I asked my mother and sister not to join me at shoots because I wanted to be alone and put my capabilities as an actor to test.

Imtiaz, why did you choose Alia for the role? It came as a surprise...
Imtiaz Ali (IA): It came as a surprise to me as well! I was looking at someone with more life experience. But when I met her, I realised she has an emotional insight into things and since she has never been on the road before, she would do an honest job of it.

Alia, how was working with Imtiaz different from your film with Karan Johar?
AB: Karan likes to sit before the monitor, but Imtiaz prefers to get physically involved. So much so that you could see his hair or arm in the frame! Sometimes, he would even drive the truck.

Was shooting in Kashmir tough?
IA: That was, in fact, the easiest schedule. My crew comprised of travel enthusiasts and this made shooting in Himachal Pradesh so much fun.

Imtiaz, Rockstar received mixed reviews. Are you tense about Highway’s prospects?
IA: No, not at all. In this business, there is so much pressure to perform that after a point, you become shameless. Luckily, I was born that way (laughs).

Salman Khan with Sajid Nadiadwa

Nargis Fakhri with finalists
"Everyone will criticise everything. Human beings... it's their nature. Everyone has their own viewpoints and perspective on what beauty is," Nargis told reporters.

"Each woman should do what she feels like. It's about yourself. What you wear, be it extensions or lip plumper or short skirt..it's up to you," added the actress, who made her Bollywood debut with "Rockstar".

On Wednesday, she crowned Shree Radhe Khanduja as the winner of Veet Be the Diva season 3 campaign. She also honoured first and second runners-up Shefali Roy and Rishita Shah respectively.

Veet also organised social walk - Veet Walk of Confidence.

"We had a lovely time judging. Out of 10 lovely ladies, three were crowned. I liked the platform Veet is giving to young women... an opportunity to showcase their confidence, beauty and personality," said the actress.

'Gunday' to pay tribute to Yash Chopra

Gunday
Chopra died in 2012 and "Gunday" was the last script he had heard.

It was Zafar's idea to include a tribute to the filmmaker, known for directing great movies like "Deewaar", "Kabhi Kabhie" and "Chandni".

Chopra gave his inputs and suggestions to the director regarding the script of "Gunday". He told Zafar to shoot the coal mine scenes at the actual location and not recreate it here, which was also his dream during "Kaala Patthar", said a statement.

"It was Ali Abbas Zafar's idea, he was very, very keen as this was Yashji's last script that he had heard. This was an emotional moment for Ali," said a source from Yash Raj Films, which has produced "Gunday" as well.

Releasing Friday, the film features Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra.

Ajay Devgn to work on his body for Rohit Shetty's 'Singham 2'

Ajay Devgn
"I will have to be in better shape. I work out. There is a regime I follow, which I had quit in between and taken a break.

"We had a good story hence we are making 'Singham 2'. This time the villain is very funny and the actor is fabulous.

He is perfect for the film. The character this time is different for the leading lady hence we have got another actress Kareena Kapoor," he said.

'Singham 2' is being directed by Rohit Shetty.

Ajay insists that there has been no change in his relationship with Rohit despite the filmmaker had worked with Shah Rukh Khan in his last release 'Chennai Express'.

"We are friends. When 'Chennai Express' was offered to Rohit, he called me asking what to do. So I said him to do it and if he does a big project, then I am happy for him," he said.

Besides Rohit's 'Singham 2', which is yet to go on the floors, Ajay would be also seen in Prabhudeva's 'Action Jackson'.

"Till the time, the first promo of 'Action Jackson' is out, it would be unfair to talk about the film. Prabhu has made me work hard on the dancing part, which is something I run away from. There are five songs I have seen two songs, rest three are to be shot," Ajay said.

Telangana issue rocks Parliament, Lok Sabha adjourned for the day

 Telangana issue disrupts Parliament
Both the Houses saw noisy scenes as soon as they met for the day with members from Andhra Pradesh -- from Telangana as well as Seemandhra regions -- cutting across party lines storming the Well. Those protesting included members from ruling Congress.

While Seemandhra members carried placards saying 'Jai Samaikya Andhra Pradesh' (hail united Andhra Pradesh), Telangana members shouted slogans demanding early creation of the separate state.

The government has announced that it will take up the Bill to carve out a separate Telangana state from Andhra Pradesh in the session that will conclude on February 21.

Andhra Pradesh has remained sharply divided on regional lines on the Telangana issue and the Bill is coming to the Parliament after being rejected by the Andhra Pradesh Assembly.

READ MORE: PM hopes smooth passage of Telangana Bill

Government is expected to introduce the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill in the Parliament next week. Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal members were on their feet, targeting Congress on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in the wake of renewed controversy on the issue following a television interview by Rahul Gandhi.

Carrying placards and shouting slogans, they wanted day-to-day trial of pending cases against Congress leaders Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler. BSP members were also in the Well but it was not immediately clear what issue they were raising.

Speaker Meira Kumar repeatedly appealed to members to maintain calm and allow smooth conduct of the House, reminding them that it was the last session of the 15th Lok Sabha. As her pleas went unheeded, she adjourned the House, first till noon and later for the day.

Before the adjournment, the House condemned the attacks and harassment of people from the Northeast in various parts of the country in the wake of the killing of a boy from Arunachal Pradesh in Delhi.

Government fails to table anti-communal violence bill in RS

Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde sought to introduce in the Rajya Sabha a bill to prevent communal violence but could not do so due to protests by BJP members, forcing a second adjournment of the house, this time till 2 pm.

But Leader of Opposition Arun Jaitley (BJP) stood up to oppose the introduction of the bill.

Members from some other parties also sought to raise their issues, causing a din.

Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien then adjourned the house till 2 pm.

Nargis Fakhri gives girly advice to Ileana D'Cruz

Nargis Fakhri gives girly advice to Ileana
And as their roles needed them to flaunt their curves, the actresses had to go that extra mile and get in shape for the camera.

Nargis suggested a juice cleanse diet to her co-star. A detox diet where a person consumes only fresh fruit and vegetable juices, and abstains from food consumption for days, Nargis has lost a lot of inches through this diet and she didn’t hesitate from telling Ileana about the same.

Says Nargis, “I had always wanted to try a juice cleanse. I had heard about it earlier, and I then read about how this diet gives your body a break from regular food. I then did a six-day juice cleanse and lost three kilos.”

She adds, “Ileana got curious and I convinced her to try it. She, however, could only last a day on the juice cleanse regime.”
