Now, send money to your Facebook friends real time for free

"This is a bank agnostic product, the sender and the receiver may not be our account holders. We have used the IMPS platform on the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) network to make this possible," KMB's executive vice president and head of digital initiatives, Deepak Sharmasaid.

At present, a sender can initiate fund transfer to any person through mobile phone, courtesy the IMPS infrastructure.

The IMPS platform has 28 banks under it and account holders of any of these banks can use the newly launched service, Sharma said, adding that there will be no charges for either sending or receiving the money.

KMB has worked closely with the Reserve Bank and the National Payments Corporation of India for it, he said.

The sender will have to register on a dedicated website for the initiative called 'KayPay' wherein he will have to give bank account details and the bank's MMID, apart from personal credentials, Sharma said.

Once registered, the sender can initiate transactions and if the beneficiary is not registered on KayPay, he will be directed to a page to register for completed a transaction.

If the beneficiary is registered on KayPay, the transaction will be executed faster.

On the security front, Sharma claimed it is fully secure, even in the event of the Facebook account getting compromised as it uses two-factor authentication to complete a transaction. Additionally, there is also an expiry time for a transaction, he said.

KMB has set a limit of Rs 2,500 per transaction and a total of Rs 25,000 a month for sending, while a beneficiary may also not get more than Rs 25,000 a month, Sharma said.

"We wanted to make fund transfers for small amounts as less cumbersome as possible," Sharma said.

It can be noted that at present, some lenders like ICICI Bank allow fund transfers for their own account holders using Facebook.

Sharma declined to give any target of the transactions which the bank is targeting, but said that the scope is vast as there are at least 250 million Facebook users in the country having a bank account, who can benefit from it.

Kareena is a blessing in my life: Karisma Kapoor

She is my sister and we are very close. I think she is more of a friend to me than just a family member. We share a great bond and she is a blessing in my life," Karisma said.

The 'Zubeidaa' actress, who had a successful career in 90s' and 2000, says it has been a rare instance when two sisters have successfully worked in the same decade.

"I think there has never been a precedence where two sisters in Bollywood have been successful working simultaneously as heroines in same decade or same generation. I think we have been lucky and fortunate to have had great careers," she said.

Though they share a close bond as sisters personally, Karisma says professionally they never interfere in each other's decision.

Asked if she is worried that Kareena is rejecting many film offers after marriage, Karisma supported her sister and said “She is married and wants to pick and choose the work she is doing. It is completely her choice.”

“She is been that kind of person. I think, right from her first film, she has done whatever she has wanted to do in her life, and I think that is the kind of person she is and we respect that," she added.

Karisma, who went against her family to enter Bollywood, says she would never enforce anything on her children, Samiera and Kiaan, on what they want to be in life, including becoming an actor.

"I am a kind of parent who will let them do whatever they want to do in life. Whether they want to be an actor or not be an actor. I would never enforce anything on them," she said.

As a mother, Karisma wants her children to grow as strong and responsible individuals at their own pace.

Karisma does not want to get back into films as she wants to spend some time with her two children. The actress says she cannot think of being away from them for a long period of time.

"It is my personal choice and preference. I think my children are very young and when we do a film, it takes many days to complete a film. I want to be around for my children. I think I feel happy as a parent," said Karisma.

Acting may have taken a back seat after marriage and motherhood but Karisma feels she is still loved by her fans.

"In a way, I strike a balance with masses and classes. I also have that connect with the audience and I am thankful to my fans that they want to see me. Commercials don't consume a lot of time. I just did a book last year. I did a radio show. So, I like doing different things and that keeps me busy and active apart from parenting," she said.

Karisma feels young women should lead a healthy life to be active in life.

"I want to propagate to young women out there, you are beautiful as you are and you must lead a healthy lifestyle eat correctly and go to gym or do yoga or do something everything in moderation that's all," she said.

Xiaomi hits back over Apple's 'theft' accusation

Responding to Apple's design head Jony Ive's accusation that Xiaomi has stolen iPhone technology, President Lin Bin said Ive should use a Xiamomi phone to know the difference between the two gadgets.

"Xiaomi is a very open company, which would never force anyone to use its products. However, one can only judge Xiaomi's gadgets after he or she has used them," Lin was quoted as saying.

"I'm very willing to give a Xiaomi cell phone to him [Jony Ive] as present, and I look forward to hearing his remarks after he uses it," Lin said.

While responding to a question in San Francisco on Thursday about common features between the two phones, Ive said, "I don't see it as flattery. I see it as theft, and it's lazy. I don't think it's ok at all".

Xiaomi surpassed Samsung and Apple to become the biggest smartphone maker in China in the second quarter of this year, according to a report from Canalys.

Lin said the biggest challenge for Xiaomi currently was to increase its productivity.

In the first half of the year, Xiaomi produced 26 million cell phones and is expected to cross a total of over 60 million this year.

"At present, we can produce 6 to 7 million cell phones each month, and we will continuously improve that," Lin said.

Lei Jun, Xiaomi's founder, said yesterday that Xiaomi would not go public in the next five years.

Type with one hand with new app on iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus

Aptly called One Handed Keyboard, the app displays what it claims to be the same size of keyboard iPhone users are accustomed to.

The keyboard offers only a smaller keyboard that docks to either side of the screen, with extra controls to adjust the theme or colour of the keys, CNET reported.

What the app does not provide is an auto-correct library. So whenever you type something incorrect, the iOS devices cannot correct it.

According to its developers, this feature will be added soon to the app. Users can activate the keyboard in the settings, media reports said.

India can be a tough market for Google's Android One: IDC

Last month, Google launched Android One range of devices in partnership with Indian handset makers Micromax, Karbonn and Spice and mobile operators like Airtel and Reliance. The smart phones are priced Rs 6,399 onwards.

"Despite significant marketing spend already in evidence on Android One, IDC believes India will be a tough crucible for Google. Blocked out of China, Google has no choice but to make a large downstream investment in the Next Billion consumer segment in India," the research firm said.

India is the first country where the California-based firm's Android One devices have been launched. Roll out across other markets like Indonesia, Philippines, Pakistan,Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri-Lanka will follow in coming months.

Success in this segment will greatly enhance their ability to leverage Android to drive adoption by the Next Billion of the Google consumer cloud, it added.    "IDC believes that Android One is crucial for Google to execute on its strategy to leverage the fast-growing Android user base to drive engagement for its increasing portfolio of essential Google services, including search, Maps, Google Now and others," it said.

A consistent user experience, or at least a vastly improved one, will greatly increase engagement and ultimately revenues, IDC added.

The research firm said it expects Android One will attract significant sales and redefine the affordable smart phone segment by reshaping the mid tier with a range of devices that
feature good enough device specifications for a fraction of the price compared to flagship devices.

It added that Android One will go further and effectively create a bipolar pear shaped environment where the high end will be dominated by the likes of Apple and Samsung with their iPhone and Galaxy flagship devices and the low end will increasingly converge around USD 100 Average Selling Price (ASP) benchmark.

Earlier this week, the Chinese OEM put up a total of 1,50,000 phones of Xiaomi Redmi 1S on Flipkart.

The Mi 3 smartphone has been permanently discontinued in India. The final sale took place earlier this week where 25,000 units were put up for sale.

Named Shamu (killer whale), the new Nexus phone will be larger than Apple's iPhone 6 Plus (5.5 inches) and Samsung Galaxy Note (5.7 inches), US daily reported.

Motorola Mobility, the phonemaker that Google is selling to China's Lenovo Group Ltd, is reportedly manufacturing the phone.

Google also plan to release a new version of its Android mobile-operating system simultaneously.

Facebook may launch app for sharing posts anonymously

The standalone app may also have health-focused features to connect users suffering from the same illnesses to create a kind of support network, a US daily reported.

According to the report, the app will allow people to use pseudonyms so they can have discussions about topics "which they may not be comfortable connecting to their real names".

Whether the standalone app will connect to Facebook's main page and users' account is still not clear.

Earlier this year, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that releasing new standalone apps would be a top priority for the social networking site.

Facebook has already launched an ephemeral messaging app called Slingshot. The Facebook Messenger app has already been downloaded over 500 million times on Android-based devices.

Sony Xperia Z2 review

The rear-facing camera of this new smartphone not only features a 20.7MP sensor but also introduces 4K video recording for the first time with a resolution of 3840x2160 pixels, four times that of HD! It is perhaps the most impressive feature of Xperia Z2.

The device is also powered by a quad-core 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with 3GB of RAM, meaning it is quite the powerhouse. The chip is just as impressive in the real world as it is on paper. The device is very nippy; with no lag whatsoever, even when playing and recording 4K video.

The Xperia Z2 is lighter than its predecessor Xperia Z1 which weighs 169g. Although, Sony hasn't disclosed the exact weight of the Z2 but from holding the device and analyzing it, it is quite clear that Sony has managed to squeeze in a good number of updates, such as a bigger screen, while reducing the weight.

Tatas' Land Rover only Indian-owned brand in world's top 100

Land Rover, an iconic British car brand owned by Indian conglomerate Tatas, has been ranked 91st with a brand value of USD 4.47 billion and is one of the five new entrants on this annual list compiled by leading brand consultancy Interbrand.

Apple — maker of iPhone mobiles, Mac computers, iPad tablets and iPod music players among others — is followed by Google on the second position (USD 107 billion). These are the only two with brand values in excess of USD 100 billion.

While Land Rover is the only Indian-owned entity on the list, there are at least six other brands ranked among top 100 that are part of the entities run by Indian-origin CEOs.

These include Satya Nadella-led Microsoft (5th with brand value of USD 61 billion), Indra Nooyi-led Pepsi (24th; USD 19 billion), Shantanu Narayen-led Adobe (77th; USD 5.3 billion) and Ajay Banga-led MasterCard (88th; USD 4.7 billion).

Ivan Menezes-led British drinks giant Diageo, which also owns majority stake in India’s largest alcoholic beverage manufacturer United Spirits, also has two portfolio brands — Smirnoff (34th; USD 13 billion) and Johnnie Walker (86th; USD 4.8 billion) — on the top 100 list.

Land Rover has been ranked higher than many big global brands like FedEx, Huawei, Heineken, Pizza Hut, BOSS, Nokia, Gap and Nintendo.

“Exemplifying British engineering and expertise in the SUV category, the iconic British brand (owned by TATA of India) has invested heavily in product creation, facility, and infrastructure,” Interbrand said.

The leading brand consultancy further noted that “with 115 awards across its car range (led by Range Rover with 55 awards), Land Rover is finally getting the recognition it deserves and has improved its J D Power scores significantly.”

“With the customer at the heart of the company, a clear focus and significant investment in improving design and quality, and demonstrating world-class technology and innovation, Land Rover is fully equipped to experience accelerating success in the forthcoming Age of You,” Interbrand added.

Among top-ten, Apple and Google are followed by Coca-Cola, IBM, Microsoft, GE, Samsung, Toyota, McDonald’s and Mercedes Benz.

Apple’s brand value increased 21 per cent year-on-year, while for Google it was 15 per cent and for Coca Cola it was 3 per cent.

To be included in Best Global Brands, a brand must be truly global, having successfully transcended geographic and cultural boundaries, Interbrand said.

It must have a significant presence in Asia, Europe, and North America, as well as broad geographic coverage in emerging markets.

Moreover, the brand must have a public profile and awareness across the world’s major economies.

Oil Ministry sets up panel on delays in ONGC's gas discovery

The three-member committee will be headed by BN Talukar, Directorate General of Hydrocarbons, and will have the financial advisor and a director from the ministry.

The panel will inquire into delay in developing fields by Oil and Natural Gas Corp in the block KG-DWN-98/2 or KG-D5, and submit its report by end-October, sources said.

ONGC's KG-D5 sits next to Reliance Industries' eastern offshore KG-DWN-98/3 or KG-D6 block in Bay of Bengal. Both blocks were awarded in the first round of auction under New Exploration Licensing Policy (NELP) in 2000.

While RIL began oil production from its KG-D6 block in September 2008 and gas output in April 2009, ONGC, which has made 11 oil and gas discoveries in KG-D5 block, is at least four years away from first gas. The ministry now wants to investigate the reasons for the delay.

ONGC Chairman and Managing Director Dinesh K Sarraf welcomed constitution of the committee and said the company will extend all cooperation in the investigation.

He said gas production from the block is planned to begin in 2018 and oil output in 2019.

KG-D5 will produce up to 90,000 barrels per day (4.5 million tonnes per annum) - the largest from any field on the east coast. ONGC will produce 17 million standard cubic meters per day of gas from the block.

"We plan to put to production discoveries in northern part of the block together with finds in a neighbouring block," he said, adding that the company is working on a field development plan which will detail investment required.

KG-D5 is divided into a Northern Discovery Area (NDA) and Southern Discovery Area (SDA).

NDA holds an estimated 92.30 million tonnes of oil reserves and 97.568 billion cubic metres of inplace gas reserves spread over seven fields.

ONGC bought 90 percent interest in Block KG-DWN-98/2 from Cairn Energy India Ltd in 2005. Cairn subsequently relinquished its remaining 10 percent interest in favour of ONGC.

Before selling most of its stake and giving away operatorship of the block, Cairn made four discoveries in the area Padmavati, Kanakdurga, N-1 and R-1 (Annapurna).

Subsequently, ONGC made six significant discoveries - E-1, A1, U1, W1, D-1 and KT-1 in NDA and the first ultra- deepwater discovery UD-1 at a record depth of 2,841 metres.

The NDA comprises discoveries like Padmawati, Kanadurga, D, E, U, A, while the ultra deepsea UD find lies in SDA.

Gold, silver tumble on fall in demand, weak global cues

Silver followed suit and eased by Rs 450 to Rs 38,200 per kg on poor offtake by industrial units and coin makers.

The market remained closed on Thursday and Friday on account of 'Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti' and 'Dussehra', respectively.

Traders said fall in demand at prevailing higher levels and a weakening trend global market pulled down gold and silver prices.

Globally, gold in New York, which normally sets price trend on the domestic front, fell two percent to USD 1,190.30 an ounce, the lowest since December 31 after US employers added more jobs in September than forecast, stoking speculation that the Federal Reserve will move closer to raising interest rates.

Silver also fell 1.3 percent to USD 16.82 an ounce on the Comex, after touching USD 16.64, the lowest since March 2010.

In Delhi, gold of 99.9 and 99.5 percent purity plunged by Rs 440 each to Rs 27,030 and Rs 26,830 per ten gram, respectively.

It had gained Rs 240 in the previous three sessions.

Sovereign followed suit and shed Rs 100 at Rs 24,100 per piece of eight gram.

Silver ready dropped further by Rs 450 to Rs 38,200 per kg and weekly-based delivery by Rs 285 to Rs 37,885 per kg.

Silver coins also nosedived by Rs 2,000 to Rs 66,000 for buying and Rs 67,000 for selling of 100 pieces.
