Sushma Swaraj to visit UAE next week

Sushma Swaraj will also interact with the Indian community during her visit, which is taking place at the invitation of her UAE counterpart, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

India enjoys close and multifaceted comprehensive partnership with UAE. The well-balanced bilateral trade amounted to USD 59 billion in 2013-14. UAE was our largest trading partner in 2012-13.

It is the 11th largest in terms of foreign direct investment in India. It contributes significantly to India's energy security and is the sixth largest supplier of crude oil to India, said an official release.

About 2.6 million strong and vibrant Indian community forms the largest expatriate group in the UAE. Their positive and well-appreciated contribution in the development of their host country has been an important anchor of our excellent bilateral engagement.

India has vital stakes in the security and stability of the Gulf region, which hosts over seven million Indians. This region is also the source of nearly two-third of India's crude oil requirements and is our largest trading partner, it said.

Congress, BJP slam Nitesh's anti-Gujarati rant

"Nitesh Rane's tweet is his personal statement. As far as Congress is concerned, our party never endorses such irresponsible statements and ideology," said Gujarat unit party spokesperson Manish Doshi.

"Congress is always against dividing people in the name of language and territory. Any citizen of India can live and earn his livelihood anywhere in India," Doshi said.

Gujarat BJP General Secretary I K Jadeja registered a strong protest against the "anti-Gujarati" rant by Nitesh, son of senior Congress leader Narayan Rane, terming them as "cheap mentality".

"Narayan Rane's son has revealed his cheap mindset. Just like people from other states gave their contribution in the development Gujarat, Gujarati community gave their contribution in the development of Maharashtra. Thus, to have such mindset against Gujarati community is highly condemnable" Jadeja told reporters.

Nitesh, a first-term MLA, kicked off a storm saying that he wants to begin Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Clean India' campaign from Mumbai by cleaning the city of all Gujaratis who hate Marathis.

"Wanna take part in Swacha Bharat abhiyan n start from mumbai!! Wanna start cleaning up all the Marathi hating gujjus from there once for all," Nitesh posted on Twitter.

Change of regimes in Rajasthan, Haryana forces Robert Vadra to sell his companies

The four companies which were sold by Vadra are Lifline Agrotech Private Limited, Righline Agriculture Private Limited, Greenwave Agro Private Limited and Prime Time Agro Private Limited.

According to reports, Vadra may close his two other companies--Future Infra Agro Limited and Best Seasons Private Limited-- soon. All the closed companies were active in two states--Rajasthan and Haryana-- under Congress rule.  Vadra was the Managing Director of all the companies which were involved in the business of agriculture-based products.

In Rajasthan, BJP under the leadership of Vasundhara Raje has ousted Ashok Gehlot government in May this year while in Haryana the saffron party has formed the government recently for the first time by replacing Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress government.

Vadra has opened 12 companies for business in real sector in Rajasthan and Haryana in 2012. In Haryana the government has initiated enquiry against deal finalised by Vadra's companies in the state.

Vadra is reported to have started selling his companies soon after the swearing-in of Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of the country. Besides companies, Vadra, the husband of Priyanka Gandhi, has also started selling his lands in Haryana.

Jaitley meets Badals, says no question of snapping alliance with SAD

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley met Union Minister Harsimrat Badal and her husband and SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal at their residence and attended a religious function there on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev there.

Jaitley, who shares cordial ties with the Badals, also spent some time with them and told them that there was no question of the two parties being separated.

"I want to make it clear there is no rift between BJP and SAD. We are the oldest allies, we are not only friends but are in relation with each other. Our alliance is not only a political alliance but a social one too," Jaitley told reporters outside Badal's residence.

BJP general secretary J P Nadda also said there was no question of ending ties with SAD and would seek to know from his party leader Ramshankar Katheriya about his remarks.

"There is no question is snapping ties with SAD. We have an emotional bondage. We are old partners and have been working with emotional understanding for many years. There is no question of any misunderstanding between us," Nadda told.

Jaitley said ties with SAD is more relevant especially after the terrorism days in Punjab as it was instrumental in restoring peace and development in the state.

Nadda said he would find out from Katheria as to what he has stated in Chandigarh that had led to doubts about any alliance between the two allies.

The remarks by Jaitley and Nadda came in the backdrop of BJP leader Katheriya's remarks in Chandigarh yesterday that the party has no problem in running the government in alliance with SAD but in case workers and party leaders wish to fight it alone and a favourable scenario develops in the state, the party may have to think like that.

Modi meets former Israeli President, discusses counter-terrorism

Modi lauded the immense contribution of Peres to the world polity and development of India-Israel relations, a Prime Minister's Office (PMO) release said here."The prime minister said that it was a great honour for him to meet Shimon Peres, whose life was a source of inspiration for the entire world," the release said.

Peres said that Israel sees India as its "elder sister" and  termed Modi "a world leader, a true partner confronting global challenges, and a friend of Israel". Peres also said that Modi was leading a "third revolution" following the steps of Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru and leading India and its people to a better future. The prime minister recalled his visit to Israel as Gujarat chief minister, following which he had promoted the use of drip irrigation in the state and also set up an incubation centre to support start-up companies with Israeli collaboration.

"The prime minister reiterated the strong desire of India to further expand and strengthen its relations with Israel both in traditional areas as well as in new areas of cooperation," the PMO release said. Modi said he was impressed by Israel and its achievements and that India values Israel's contribution in developing advanced technologies. Modi said Israel combines innovation, creativity and courage that had brought solutions in various fields to India and to many other countries around the world. Modi also mentioned that the Indian Jews who had emigrated to Israel form a special link between both nations.

Peres congratulated the prime minister on his victory in the elections. He expressed deep appreciation for the ambitious programmes launched by Modi for India's economic and social transformation which, he said, struck the right balance between respect for tradition and use of modern technology. The former Israeli president said India's development and growth will be beneficial to the entire world. He conveyed Israel's readiness to partner with India in its development efforts and in this context called for greater collaboration in the areas of new and higher technologies.

PMO asks Shiv Sena for two names to be included in Modi government

"We have got a call from the Prime Minister's office requesting us to recommend two names that we feel should be included in Modiji's cabinet. Though we have several names, Uddhavji will send his recommendation by tomorrow morning," a Sena MP said, requesting anonymity.

The offer of ministerial berths to Sena at the Centre, coming as it does after Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made it clear that no Shiv Sena minister will be inducted into his ministry before it wins trust vote on November 12, is being seen as an attempt by BJP to humour the former ally into backing the government during the floor test.

While BJP had insisted on Sena first helping it sail through the trust vote, the latter wanted at least some of its ministers included in the Fadnavis government before November
12.

Though both sides have claimed power-sharing talks were in progress, they have not yet been able to sort out the differences over Sena's demand for deputy chief ministership and 2:1 share of ministries.

Heavy Industries Minister Anant Geete is the lone Shiv Sena Minister in the Union Cabinet and the party has often complained about having been neglected by BJP at the Centre.

The Sena MP said though Uddhav would send the names of MPs to be included in the Union government tomorrow, it should not be "misconstrued" as indication of it being prepared to relent on its demands in Maharashtra.

"Please do not equate the demands made by our party to the Central and the state governments. Our demands are different on different levels. We are firm on our demands as far as the state is concerned," he said.

Rajnath Singh to visit Mumbai on Tuesday

"The Home Minister will visit Mumbai on October 28," sources close to him said.

Singh will visit Mumbai as BJP observer, along with party general secretary and new in-charge of party affairs in the state J P Nadda, to elect the leader of the BJP legislature party.

Singh and Nadda were supposed to visit Mumbai on October 20, a day after the results of the Assembly elections were out, as part of the decision of the BJP Parliamentary Party but they decided to defer the tour.

Singh had said that he would visit Maharashtra after Diwali.

So far, BJP has not taken any decision on the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, though the party's state unit chief Devendra Fadnavis is leading the race.

Singh, who is said to be close to Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, is expected to meet the estranged ally leader, amid speculation of back-channel talks continuing with the Sena.

BJP, which has got 122 seats in the recently concluded Maharashtra assembly elections, needs the support of at least 22 MLAs to reach the halfway mark in the 288-member House.

Shiv Sena has won 63 seats. The BJP and Shiv Sena alliance broke down ahead of the Assembly polls on the issue of seat-sharing.

NCP to abstain if BJP in Maharashtra seeks trust vote: Nawab Malik

"If Shiv Sena joins the government, there will be no problem. We will not be part of the government but do not want to create instability by voting against a minority government. So NCP will abstain if there is voting," NCP spokesman Nawab Malik said.

NCP would like to honour the people's mandate which is in favour of BJP ,the single largest party, he said.

Seven independents and five MLAs from smaller parties will support the BJP government during the floor test taking the total strength to 134, ten short of the simple majority mark in the house of 288. There is one nominated member taking the total strength of the legislative assembly to 289.

In an interview to an English daily, NCP chief Sharad Pawar said, "if situation warrants and there is voting in the assembly (for establishing majority) we will abstain."

" Numbers are such that we are compelled to do it, otherwise there will be no government in Maharashtra and within six months there will again be elections," he said in the interview.

Army celebrates 65th Infantry day in Jammu & Kashmir

In the honour of martyrs of the Infantry, Chief of Staff of Northern Command Lt Gen HJS Sachdev laid wreath on the 'Dhruva Shahid Smarak' in Udhampur-based Northern Command Headquarters.

"The Indian Army celebrated 65th Infantry Day with traditional solemnity and gaiety today," a Defence spokesman said.

The highlight of the function was the solemn wreath laying marked by reversal of arms and sounding of bugles at the Ashwamedh Shaurya Sthal and Tiger War Memorial.

"Veterans, serving Officers and men alike paid homage to all the brave soldiers of the country who have made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty," the spokesman said.

The day was celebrated in a most traditional and solemn manner at Jammu and Nagrota Garrison, he said, adding that similar memorial services were held across the state.

Major Gen Dushyant Singh laid the wreath at the newly- renovated Tiger War Memorial in Satwari and Brigadier NK Airy, the senior most Infantry Officer in the absence of General Officer Commanding (GOC), White Knight Corps, Lt Gen KH Singh laid the wreath on his behalf at the Ashwamedh Shaurya Sthal at Nagrota.

October 27 is celebrated as Infantry Day by the Army as it was on this day in 1947 that a Company of Infantry of the First Battalion of the Sikh Regiment was airlifted from Delhi to Srinagar, to liberate Kashmir from the invading tribals supported by the Pakistan Army, the spokesman said.

This action was ordered by then Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru after Maharaja Hari Singh signed the Instrument of Accession, acceding his kingdom 'Jammu and Kashmir' to independent India.

Another significance is that it was on this day in 1947 that India as an independent nation was for the first time engaged in operations against an aggressor.

Infantry, the largest fighting arm and also known as the "Queen of the Battle," is the backbone of the Army and its soldiers bear the main brunt in any battle.

Physical fitness, aggression and discipline are the basic qualities required in these men. The Infantry units of Army have been modernised, equipped and trained to make the Indian Army amongst the best in the world, the spokesman said.

Congress to announce candidates for J-K Assembly polls soon: Soz

Setting poll process in motion, notification for the first phase of Assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir will be issued on Tuesday.

The Congress which is in hectic parleys to finalise the candidates said the names will be announced within a couple of days.

"The candidates would be announced within a couple of days. We are working on it", Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President, Prof Saif-uddin-Soz said.

The leader, however, refused to comment on whether the party will enter into an alliance.

The Election Commission on Saturday decided to go ahead with holding Assembly polls in flood-devastated Jammu and Kashmir and announced a five-phased schedule between November 23 and December 20.

Ruling coalition partners of Congress and National Conference (NOC) fought Lok Sabha elections this year in alliance and lost all the six seats.

BJP bagged three seats of Jammu, Udhampur and Ladakh Parliamentary constituencies and PDP bagged Srinagar, Ananatnag and Baramulla LS seats in Kahsmir.

1,000-hour bandh for separate state begins in Karbi Anglong

JACAS has called the bandh from 5 AM today till 9 PM on December 7 in protest against the delay in announcing the dates for next round of talks since the last one held on November 6, 2013 for creation of a separate autonomous state within Assam under Article 244 A of the Constitution.

Karbi Anglong district Superintendent of Police Ugdhajyoti Dev Mahanta said no untoward incident has been reported so far. All educational institutes and financial establishments remained closed, while negligible attendance has been recorded in government offices across the district, he added.

Mahanta said vehicles remained off the two National Highways passing through the district although there was no blockade reported in any part of Karbi Anglong. From September 1, JACAS had organised an indefinite hunger strike seeking to restart the tripartite dialogue between JACAS, Assam government and Union government. After reportedly getting an assurance from a messenger of the Union government that the next date for discussion would be announced soon, JACAS withdrew the strike.

However, as no communication has been received from the Centre for more than one and half month, JACAS decided to go ahead with the 1,000-hour bandh. JACAS is also demanding a bill regarding creation of a separate state during the forthcoming Winter Session of the Parliament.

Ready to back any CM as long as he has people's blessings: Sena

"On the day of Laxmi Pooja, Devendra Fadnavis met Nitin Gadkari and took his blessings. Later Gadkari met the RSS chief and took his blessings. All these blessings are undoubtedly important, but the blessings of the people are the most important. Shiv Sena is ready to support anyone who will take Maharashtra ahead with the blessings of the people," Sena said in an editorial in its mouthpiece 'Saamana'.

The party says that though Union Minister Nitin Gadkarihas the experience to don the mantle in the state, the final decision will be taken by the high command in Delhi.

"The final decision (over the CM's name) will be taken by the high command in Delhi, hence no point for the state leaders to think over this. Gadkari is well versed with the state and hence has a development vision for Maharashtra. On the other hand ,Fadnavis does not have the experience of being involved in governance," the party organ said.

We are happy that the BJP won the elections and rooted the corrupt Congress and the NCP out of power. The state will benefit from the oust of both these parties, it added.

BJP's central observers Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and J P Nadda will attend the legislature party meet in Mumbai tomorrow and elect the next Chief Minister of the state.

With no concrete talks having taken place between the BJP and the Sena over the allocation of portfolios, the Sena will have to wait for further clarity until the legislature party meet.

Centre plans ring road train for Delhi: Union Urban Minister

"There is a lot of traffic jam in Delhi everyday. We are considering to bring 'Ring Road Train', which will help us decongest roads in the national capital," Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said here.

The Centre has also plans to construct several flyovers, elevated highways and ring roads across the city.

"In the upcoming days, many new flyovers, more ring roads, expansion of Metro lines and elevated highways will come up in Delhi following which congestion will be reduced in the national capital," Naidu said ata function here.

The minister said that to suggest necessary measures for these projects, he has constituted a committee led by the Urban Development Secretary.

"This committee will submit its final report within 45 days and thereafter, Centre and Delhi government will work on these projects," he said.

"We are also working on a project which will allow vehicles coming from the side of Haryana and wanting to go to other states to bypass national capital and such vehicles don't need to enter in the city due to which there will be no congestion in Delhi," Naidu.

The Central government has already set a deadline of three years to complete the Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressway, which aims to decongest Delhi roads.

The two expressways each about 135 km long were planned in 2006 following a Supreme Court order to form a ring road outside Delhi for channelling non-Delhi bound traffic bypassing the national capital.

Eastern Peripheral Expressway envisages providing signal-free connectivity between Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gautam Budh Nagar (Greater Noida) and Palwal while the Western Expressway connects Kundli to Palwal via Manesar in Haryana.

Chhath Puja begins in Bihar

"Chhath Puja began with ritualistic bath, before preparing the traditional meal of boiled rice and pumpkin on earthen stove," said Sudha Devi, a devotee, while cooking the traditional meal at Collectorate Ghat near the Ganga river in Patna.

ressed in new cotton sari, Sudha is one of the million devotees across the state who thronged the Ganga and other water bodies since early Monday morning. "We have to first take bath and prepare the meal. We then perform the rituals of 'Nahai-Khai' (first day of the festival) that marks the beginning of Chhath Puja," said Krishna Sinha, another devotee who with her family members was preparing food at Gandhi Ghat. She said "Nahai-Khai is a symbol of purity and strict discipline. It will be followed by 'kharna' Tuesday, when 'kheer' will be prepared and distributed among neighbours, friends and relatives.

Krishna Sinha said she will keep fast and pray for the next three days. On Wednesday evening, devotees will offer prayers called 'argya' to the setting Sun and follow this up by offering prayers to the rising sun Thursday morning. Some devotees prefer to take bath in their own houses due to dirty river banks and polluted river waters. Chhath Puja is celebrated on the sixth day following Diwali and is dedicated to the Sun. It is one of the most popular festivals in Bihar. During the festival, women observe a continuous fast for 36 hours. Devotees offer wheat, milk, sugarcane, bananas and coconuts to the Sun.

"District magistrates have been directed by (Chief Minister) Jitan Ram Manjhi to give top priority to safety and security of devotees," an official said. In Patna, about 200 divers have been deployed to handle any emergency near the river banks and over 5,000 policemen have been deployed to monitor ghats and roads.
