It is a blessing PM Modi spends some time in India: Nitish Kumar

"What can be said of the Prime Minister? He goes to foreign countries. It's a blessing that he spends some time in the country also," Kumar told reporters on the sidelines of a function marking the installation of a statue of former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar here.

Kumar criticised Modi over his Bihar visit later this month, where he is expected to kick-start BJP's campaign for the coming Assembly elections.

"He is remembering Bihar after 14-15 months of coming to power. It is to be seen what kind of package the Prime Minister announces for the state when he comes here or just does some packaging," Kumar said.

The Chief Minister pointed out that he and his officials have already submitted all papers regarding the needs and demands of the state and Modi's visit would reveal whether he accepts the suggestions for the welfare of the people or just did 'packaging of schemes' that were already going on in various departments.

Kumar said people have made Modi the 'Malik-Mukhtar' (ruler) and his wishes would prevail till he was the Prime Minister, but the people of Bihar would not be misled again.

Nitish Kumar meets PM Modi, raises fund issues

The special status issue has been a long standing demand from the ruling JD(U). This is the first time that the two met after Modi became Prime Minister and Nitish came back as Bihar Chief Minister.

The two leaders missed no opportunity to attack each other and Modi's elevation in the BJP had prompted Kumar to pull JD(U) out of NDA in June, 2013 after being part of the alliance for 17 years.

Moreover, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Kirti Azad also said Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar cannot do anything without the support of ruling party at the Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, adding that the JD (U) leader should rethink on his party's alliance with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

The BJP leader from Bihar also welcomed Nitish's move to meet Prime Minister Modi.

JD (U) expels Sabir Ali for anti-party comments

JD(U) expels Sabir Ali for anti-party remarks
Ali had earlier praised BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for his policies.

"Modi's policies are good and his work for development is also laudable," Ali told mediapersons in Patna.

According to reports, Ali may join the Bharatiya Janata Party.  He was earlier said to be upset after the JD (U) refused to nominate him to the Rajya Sabha.

Without naming any party, Ali said that ‘small parties’ were trying to cheat Muslims in the name of secularism.

"But Muslims will not get trapped in this game this time,” he said.

Ali had earlier reportedly questioned Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s idea of a Third Front, and said that every leader in such a front wants to become the country’s Prime Minister.

JD (U) expels five rebel MPs including Shivanand Tiwari: Sources

Shivanand Tiwari
Besides Tiwari, the party also expelled Lok Sabha members Jainarain Nishad, Purnmasi Ram, Sushil Kumar Singh and Mangani Lal Mandal from the party.

Jainarain Nishad and Sushil Kumar will reportedly contest from Muzaffarpur and Aurangabad Lok Sabha seats respectively on BJP tickets.

Purnmasi Ram and Mangani Lal Mandal have shown their inclination towards RJD. They are likely to be given RJD tickets.

Shivanand Tiwari was reportedly miffed over party’s decision not to renominate him in Upper House. Tiwari was asked to contest LS polls from Buxar. Tiwari  denied the party’s offer and criticised the JD (U) leadership.

Nitish trashes Lalu's charges, says RJD MLAs are welcome to join JD(U)

Nitish Kumar and Lalu Yadav
In Delhi to attend a meeting of non-Congress, non-BJP front, Kumar told reporters that there are differences in Lalu Prasad-led RJD and the party is "on the verge of a split".

"As far as JD(U) stand is concerned, if the people come to us, we will welcome them," he said.

Dismissing suggestions that the Speaker worked to benefit JD(U), he said, "This is not possible. The Speaker has been given certain powers by the Constitution and he alone can take decisions in certain matters. This is what happened in this issue as well. Nobody can pressurize him," he said.

He said people can discuss technical aspects of the decision as much as they want to but as far as political developments are concerned, RJD is close to a division among its ranks.

Kumar, who broke away from NDA over the elevation of Narendra Modi, said he could not see the so-called wave in favour of the BJP's prime ministerial candidate.

RJD saw a major upheaval on Monday with 13 out of its 22 MLAs quitting the party. But six of them later returned and denied walking away from the party.

Earlier in the day, RJD chief Lalu Prasad accused Kumar of hatching a conspiracy to break his party.

"Nitish hatched a conspiracy with the speaker to break my party. But, it went wrong and the whole country has seen the conspiracy," Prasad said.

We left NDA when BJP digressed from Vajpayee’s path: Nitish Kumar

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar
"Till the time BJP was walking on the path laid down by Atal Bihari Vajpayee for the NDA coalition by keeping off controversial issues and disputed personality, we were with them. But the day they changed their track, we thought that it would be wise to leave," Nitish said while addressing the ‘Sankalp rally’ in Begusarai.

“The BJP had promised to not do anything beyond the issues on which there was a consensus among partners of the coalition,” he said.

"They betrayed us by moving away from the consensus agenda. We cannot compromise with our principles and decided to sever ties with them," the Bihar Chief Minister added.

The JD-U leader even took potshots at the media for ‘too much coverage’ of BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, whose claim to fame, he alleged was developing an already developed state and ignoring his achievements in developing a backward state like Bihar.

"A person who claims of taking forward the state (Gujarat) which was already developed is getting all the limelight while the people who develop a backward state is ignored," he said.

Slamming a Gujarat minister for linking migration from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh to surge in the number of poor in the state, Kumar said migrants on contrary contributes in the progress of these states.

The Bihar CM reiterated his party's demand for special category status for the state to spur its development and urged people to help them win all 40 seats in the coming Lok Sabha elections to continue their demand.

JD-U snapped its 17-year old political alliance with BJP after the saffron party anointed Narendra Modi as the chief of poll campaign committee last year.

The ruling party in Bihar had reservations over the Gujarat CM being named the BJP-led NDA’s prime ministerial candidate for Lok Sabha polls, which eventually resulted in breaking up of ties.

Since then, both parties are involved in a series of allegations and counter-allegations, taking pot-shots and exchanging verbal tirades in every single opportunity.
