Good fightback on back nine by Jeev in Holland

Jeev's 67 placed him tied-26th, while India's other entrant in the event, Shiv Kapur was 102nd after a round of one-over 71 yesterday.

Meanwhile, former Open Champion Paul Lawrie flirted with the first 59 in European Tour history in round one before signing for a nine under par 61 at Kennemer Golf and Country Club. The score was matched late in the day by Australian Wade Ormsby.

Lawrie's 61 was untroubled for most of the day until Ormsby produced a stunning finish with six birdies in his last seven holes - and three in a row to conclude the round - to grab a share of top spot. http://post.jagran.com/good-fightback-on-back-nine-by-jeev-in-holland-1441967006

Serena Williams conquers fashion week after US Open win

The fact that Wintour chose to attend the New York Fashion Week runway debut of Williams, who just won the US Open for the third time, was a sign that Williams, who has made fashion her side gig for a number of years, had most definitely arrived.

"It means a lot ... I mean, she's Anna Wintour at the end of the day, fashion's queen," said a beaming Williams. "I hope she enjoys it."

Williams was certainly enjoying the moment.

Fresh off her U.S. Open win on Sunday, which tied her with Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova with 18th Grand Slam trophies, second only to Steffi Graff, Williams took on some of fashion's biggest names with her first runway show on Tuesday.

With celebrities like supermodel Beverly Johnson, actor Boris Kodjoe and comedian Marlon Wayans looking on, Williams showed her Serena Williams Signature Statement Collection for the HSN Network, which she described as "casual wear but pumped up, every day wear that is actually realistic."

"Sometimes you go to fashion shows and none of it is really realistic. You can take it off the models and you can go out and wear it so that is what we wanted to showcase," Williams said.

Time to shift focus away from Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi, says Somdev

Somdev Devvarman
India thrashed Chinese Taipei 5-0 in the Asia/Oceania Group I tie here and Somdev said although the team will forever remain grateful the contribution that Paes and Bhupathi made, the time has come to look ahead.

“Let's not focus on Leander and Mahesh. Let's focus on the youngsters. Jeevan asked 15 times during and before and after my match what I need. And he knows I will do the same when he will play. So we are all here helping out each other,” Somdev said.

“I think the focus should not be there on Leander or Mahesh. The focus should be on the group of guys who are here. The focus should be on the new captain. Because this is the future,” he said.

“We appreciate everything they have given us but now we need to move on. Mahesh has said he is done this year. Leander is a fantastic player, unfortunately he is not available for national duty this year but we will just go ahead. No matter, who is there or not there. We will try to make the best of whatever we have,” he added.

HIL: Delhi Waveriders look to tame debutants Lancers on home turf

Hockey India League
Delhi conceded a late goal against defending champions Ranchi Rhinos on Monday after a perfect start to their campaign in the second edition of HHIL. The Sardar Singh-led side defeated Jaypee Punjab Warriors 3-1 in their tournament opener.

Delhi displayed some stout defending against the Rhinos but the forward line disappointed the side as they failed to convert some really good opportunities.

After being completely outplayed in the first half, the Delhi outfit came back strongly and put up a better show in the second period. But a 63rd minute penalty-corner strike from Ashley Jackson downed the Waveriders in a keenly-contested match.

The Waveriders would be hoping for a better outing from the likes of Jason Wilson, Yuvraj Valmiki, Simon Child, Rupinderpal Singh and others against the Lancers, who looked completely out of sorts in their 3-7 defeat against Jaypee Punjab Warriors in their opening match of the event.

And come Thursday, the Delhi side would be hoping to score goals early against a the newcomers, who are trying to find footing in the six-team franchise league.

The services of ever-reliable Nicolas Jacobi of Germany under the bar gives Delhi's defense an added cushion.

Neymar’s father admits 10-million euro down payment from Barcelona

Neymar
But Neymar Sr denied any irregularities over the forward's signing with Catalan club in June last year, reports Xinhua.

"I asked Barcelona to drop confidentiality (concerning a contract) so everything was transparent and clean. I don't owe anything," Neymar Sr said during a press conference on Tuesday.

The comments come less than a week after the resignation of former Barcelona president Sandro Rosell amid claims the Catalan club paid above the disclosed figure and misappropriated funds.

Rosell, who was replaced by Josep Maria Bartomeu, faces a lawsuit initiated by club member Jordi Cases over the allegations.

The transfer cost 57.1 million euros with a two million euro bonus if Neymar is a finalist for the Ballon D'Or award, presented annually to the world's best player.

In addition, the 21-year-old has been promised an annual salary of 11.3 million euros over five years.

Neymar's father refuted claims that his company N&N had received 40 million euros after Barcelona allegedly broke an agreement to sign the forward in 2014.

"Neymar could only leave Santos to go to Barcelona. My job was to safeguard and reinforce the gain," Neymar Sr said.

"I am sure I could have picked up 120 million euros. But it is absurd for people to talk when they don't know the details and I did not receive 40 million euros in advance," he said.
