LJP to be part of 'Mahayuti' in Maharashtra: Ram Vilas Paswan

"LJP became part of the Mahayuti after joining the NDA. Number of seats don't matter. We campaigned for Nitin Gadkari in Nagpur and he won by over three lakh votes," Paswan told reporters.

Paswan, Union Food and Civil Supplies Minister, was asked if his Lok Janshakti Party has been formally inducted into the Mahayuti comprising BJP, Shiv Sena, RPI-A of Ramdas Athawale, Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatna of Raju Shetty and Rashtriya Samaj Paksha of Mahadev Jankar.

"We are part of the Mahayuti and even if we don't get any seats to contest our alliance will not break," Paswan said, adding he would discuss the election strategy in Maharashtra with state and central BJP leaders.

The dalit leader from Bihar said his party had contested elections in Maharashtra in the past too.

He ridiculed the recent alliance sewn up by Lalu Prasad and Nitish Kumar in Bihar, saying they had come together as they were not in a position to weather the Narendra Modi wave alone.

"This will not help them in anyway. Parties can join hands, but hearts have to meet. I and Lalu were also in alliance and both lost," he said, adding LJP would remain with the BJP and contest the upcoming Bihar assembly by-elections.

Claiming that both Lalu and Nitish Kumar have lost their base, Paswan said, "Generation next wants development and politics of caste and religion will not work."

When asked to comment on Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi showing unusual aggression in storming the well of the Lok Sabha yesterday, Paswan shot back, "what other option does he have now?"

"People have given the NDA such a huge mandate. There is nothing like a magic wand and Congress should wait for at least one year to see if the government fulfils people's expectations. By entering the Well and making allegations, one cannot influence the people," he said.

One-third of Delhi Police force to be women: Rajnath Singh

"We have decided to increase the number of women personnel in Delhi Police to one-third. Our effort is also to increase women personnel in state police and central police forces to one-third," he said during Question Hour.

Police-population ratio in Delhi (as in January 2013) was 391.33 per one lakh persons as against the sanctioned strength of 420.49.

The Home Minister said there is shortage of manpower in state police, central police and also in other police organizations.

"There is shortage of manpower in state/central police and Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre," he said.

He informed that as in January 2013, the sanctioned and actual strength of police personnel at all India level per one lakh population (police-population ratio) is 181.47 and 136.42 respectively.

Singh said state governments have been advised from time to time by the Home Ministry to fill up the vacancies in the state police forces. To fill up the vacancies of IPS officers, the batch size of IPS (direct recruitment) has been increased from 88 to 103 from Civil Services Examination (CSE), 2005 and further to 150 from CSE, 2009, he added.

Government had also introduced third mode of recruitment to IPS through 'limited competitive examination' to recruit 80 candidates annually. However, due to court cases, recruitment is yet to be done through this mode of examination.

Singh also said the process of appointments to the IPS by promotion from State Police Service has been accelerated.

PM Modi extends Eid greetings to nation, bats for peace, unity and brotherhood

A bench of National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NDCRC), also imposed punitive damages of Rs five lakh on the builder Emaar MGF Land Ltd, out of which Rs 2.5 lakh would be given to the buyer as compensation and Rs 2.5 lakh to be deposited in Consumer Legal Aid Account of the commission.

The bench pulled up the builder for filing an appeal against Chandigarh State Consumer Commission order and said it was well settled that no leniency should be shown to such type of litigants who in order to cover up their own fault and negligence, go on filing meritless appeal in different foras.

"Unscrupulous builders like appellants who after taking almost the entire cost of the plot, do not perform their part of obligation, should not be spared. A strong message is required to be sent to such type of builders that this Commission is not helpless in such type of matters," a bench presided by Justice VB Gupta said.

The bench passed the order on the appeal of the builder challenging the state commission's decision of directing it to refund Rs 62,60,750 to the complainants along with interest, to pay Rs two lakh compensation for causing mental agony and physical harassment to them and a cost of Rs 20,000 to them.

A complaint was filed by Chandigarh residents Karnail Singh and his son Harmeek Singh, submitting that they had booked a plot in the builder's 'Mohali Plots at Mohali Hills' project in Sector 104, Mohali by paying a booking amount of Rs five lakh on February 12, 2011.

The builder had assured them that development activity at the site was in full swing and if they booked the plot, the possession would be given to them within 18 months from the date of execution of the Plot Buyer's Agreement, it said.

It said the basic price of the plot was Rs 55 lakh and apart from this, the buyer had to pay Rs 6,87,500 towards Preferential Location Charges (PLC) plus additional charges.

After some discount, Singh had to pay Rs 65,30,250 towards the plot.
