Rajnath advises Kejriwal to give up confrontational attitude, says NCT Act governs capital

Kejriwal has been advised not to resort to confrontation and has been explained that rules framed by the Home Ministry were in accordance with the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, the sources said.

The advice came when Kejriwal told the Home Minister about the difficulties being faced by the Delhi government in the wake of the ongoing tussle with LG Najeeb Jung over transfer and postings of bureaucrats, official sources said.

During the hour-long meeting, Kejriwal and Sisodia sought the Home Ministry's cooperation in running the Delhi government and conveyed to Singh that because of the constant tussle with the LG, smooth functioning of the administration has become tough.

The sources said Kejriwal asked the Home Minister to intervene and ensure that all issues with the LG are resolved amicably.

"The Home Minister gave them a patient hearing and assured full cooperation from the central government," a source said.

Singh also asked Kejriwal to resolve all issues with the Centre and the LG amicably through cooperation as government can function only through rules, regulations and cooperation.

Sisodia told reporters after the meeting that they have raised all issues concerning Delhi but there is no outcome.

This is the first time Kejriwal has met the Home Minister since the tussle between the AAP government and the LG over the appointment of senior IAS officer Shakuntala Gamlin as acting Chief Secretary.

Centre will not tolerate anti-India activities: Rajnath to separatists

"We are ready to talk to everyone. Democracy is all about keeping open the communication lines, but we won't tolerate anybody raising pro-Pak slogans and raising Pakistani flags on Indian territory. They will be severely dealt with," Home Minister Rajnath Singh said while addressing the Jan Kalyan Parv function in Jammu.

Singh said the state government has been asked to take strong action against people who raise pro-Pakistan slogans and wave Pakistani flag.

"The Jammu and Kashmir government has been acting on this direction,'' he added.

The Home Minister said he feels pained to see the youth of the state, especially of Kashmir, being misguided.

"It pains me to see the youth being misguided. When some misguided youth raise pro-Pak slogans and wave Pakistan flags, it is not a good thing. I appeal to such youths not to get misguided. We need everybody's cooperation to move forward, to take this country forward," he said.

He said it was against the tenets of Islam and every other religion to praise another country while living in one.

Stop meddling in India's affairs: Rajnath Singh to Pakistan

"Those who want to harm the pride, integrity and sovereignty of the country will be given a befitting reply. We trust our army, our paramilitary and our forces. No question can be raised on their integrity and love for the country," Rajnath said while addressing a Jan Kalyan Parv in Jammu.

Giving a strong warning to those who want to harm India's pride, integrity and sovereignty, he said the country would give a befitting reply to such people.

Singh said India always extended a hand of friendship towards its neighbouring countries including Pakistan, but Pakistan always resorted to backstabbing.

"Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee extended a hand of friendship towards Pakistan, but it stabbed in the back. Then when Prime Minister Narendra Modi took over the office a year ago, he invited all the heads of the state of the neighbouring countries to the swearing-in ceremony including the Pakistan Prime Minister," he said.

He said Pakistan must think over its actions as it has not been reciprocating the positive response of India towards it.

Government will continue funding for police modernisation programme: Rajnath

The 90:10 funding pattern would continue for category-A states such as Jammu and Kashmir and eight in the Northeast, the Minister asserted during Question Hour in the Lok Sabha.

"After the implementation of the 14th Finance Commission, the central funding has been stopped. However, non-plan funding is continuing. "We want the states to continue with the modernisation programme as the states' share of the central tax has increased to 42 per cent after the recommendation of the 14th Finance Commission," he added.

Under the scheme, states, other than those in category-A, are grouped under category B which get funding from the Centre in the ratio of 60:40 with 60 percent being the central share.

Replying to a related question, Minister of State for Home Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary said there was no proposal to bring the 10 Maoist-affected states under the 90:10 funding pattern.

He added the Centre was already providing adequate support to states like Chattisgarh and other such states, providing them six helicopters, sanctioning 200 mobile towers and latest technologies to eliminate the Maoist threat.

Home Ministry will look into AFSPA in Arunachal: Rajnath

The assurance was given by Singh when All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) delegation met the Minister at his residence in the national capital on Sunday and submitted
a memorandum to him.

Singh cited the notification regarding extension of AFSPA to nine districts other than besides Tirap, Changlang and Longding is being kept in abeyance, AAPSU added in a statement.

He urged he would discuss the issue with Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju and the decision would be based on his (Rijiju's) wish and interpretation, the statement mentioned.

AAPSU president Kamta Lapung informed Singh that the strict tribal customs of Arunachal Pradesh prevent illegal activities from occurring and therefore AFSPA is not relevant in the state.

North East Students Organisation coordinator Pritam Sonam said while the people of Arunachal Pradesh are thankful to the Centre for inducting Rijiju as MoS for home affairs, it is unfortunate that AFSPA has been extended in the state after he got the portfolio.

If Pakistan stops aiding terror, South Asia situation will improve: Rajnath Singh

Inaugurating an International Counter-Terrorism Conference, Singh said Pakistan should understand that there are no good or bad terrorists.

“It is unfortunate that even after paying such a heavy cost for itself, Pakistan and its associates find it difficult to understand that there are no good terrorists and bad terrorists," he said, noting that the source of most terrorist activity in India lies across our borders.

Singh said Pakistan should "seriously rethink its strategy of using terrorism as an instrument of proxy war, since this would be in her own national interest."

"Differentiating terrorists into good and bad categories has failed miserably. If the ISI and the Pakistan Army stops their support to certain terror outfits, I have no hesitation in saying that the security situation in South Asia will improve significantly," he said.

"India has been a victim of cross-border terrorism for the last several decades. Terrorist organisations like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad patronised by those across the border, have inflicted several acts of terror on the Indian soil. There are several instances of such proxies being used in other parts of the world," he said.

Sidhu, VK Singh in line to contest polls from Ghaziabad on BJP ticket

Sidhu can contest election from Ghaziabad
Apart from Sidhu, General VK Singh and Baleshwar Tyagi are also in the race to contest elections from Ghaziabad with an eye on neutralizing any effect of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the NCR region.

BJP has of late drawn flak over its mismanagement in distributing tickets for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Alternatively, AAP has yet not named its candidate from the Ghaziabad constituency, which has kept rival political honchos guessing over this matter.

By giving ticket to Dr Himanshu Singh from Meerut, AAP has already signaled its intent of cornering its rivals on this particular seat.

As per other reports coming, BJP president Rajnath Singh can contest elections from either Gautam Budh Nagar or Meerut seat.

BJP’s Parliamentary Board would release the list of candidates till March 13 and before that party’s senior leaders would start mulling over the caste equation in the Western UP from a scratch.

The Ghaziabad seat has around 22 lakh voters, out of which more than 1.6 lakh are regional voters.  Considering all these factors, VK Singh and Sangeet Som’s names are also being discussed.

Under pressure from its NDA ally Akali Dal, BJP can also gamble on Sidhu from the Ghaziabad constituency.

BJP high command is also brainstorming over General VK Singh’s name from Ghaziabad, which can counterbalance AAP’s effect there. Singh has expressed desire to contest LS elections from the Bhiwani seat, however, the party leaders have not paid much heed to it.

AAP also tried to rope in former Union home minister Baleshwar Tyagi, who has a clean image, for the Ghaziabad seat but he has expressed desire to contest election on BJP seat only. Tyagi’s name for the Ghaziabad seat has also been recommended by former UP chief minister Kalyan Singh.

Accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots, BJP leader Sangeet Som has also proposed his candidature from the Ghaziabad and Muzaffarnagar constituencies. Good number of regional voters, presence of 12 to five regional MLAs in Western UP and his youth image are some of the arguments that Som put forward to the party high command in support of his candidacy.

According to the latest indications, Rajnath Singh’s camp has shown keen interest in the Gautam Budh Nagar and Meerut-Hapur seat, which has spiced up the political equations in the state.  On the other hand, Vaishya candidate Rajendra Agrawal’s name is leading the pack from the Meerut constituency.
